Name: Kim Caspare Stevens

Business: Phlex Health and Wellness Studio, a health practice that combines Eastern and Western medical modalities

Industry: Health & Beauty

Location: New York, New York, U. S.

Reason for starting: My dream was to be a professional athlete until that was sabotaged by poor traditional physical therapy at the early age of 16. I transformed my tragedy into triumph by placing myself on the sidelines acutely managing the injuries of NCAA Division 1 National Champions, at the University of Florida. I knew instinctively that in order to be the best sports Physical Therapist I needed to live in the wake of the injury as an athletic trainer. In a true “it can only happen in New York” moment, a long-term patient handed me a check and said follow your dream. Thus, Phlex Health and Wellness was born.

How do you define success? Being able to grow Phlex Health and Wellness throughout Manhattan and beyond.

Biggest Success: First one of my patients handed me a check ($100,000) back in 2011 to open my own practice, after traveling door to door, year after year treating individuals. And, I recently grew my business exponentially, after changing my business model. In order to take my business to the next level, I altered my thinking and trained other physical therapists according to my philosophy – which led to a huge uptick in clients served.

What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it? My goal was to one day build the best center for wellness and rehabilitation in Manhattan. During my tenure of working for others I gained exposure and built relationships with prominent physicians from the Hospital for Special Surgery, Mt. Sinai and NYU Hospital for Joint Disease (all in NYC). I learned from the best innovators and treated the most complicated orthopedic cases. In a short amount of time, I gained recognition by top surgeons, physicians and patients for my skills.

My goal is to increase brand awareness by redefining what physical therapy means. By treating the whole body we hope to increase overall wellness through boosting metabolism, ridding people of chronic disease, helping them defy gravity which comes with the aging process and increase a youthful progression through aging.

Who is your most important role model? My mother-in-law Carol Stevens. She has a “go for it” attitude, she’s a great problem solver and she doesn’t let anyone hold her back if she’s determined to make something happen.
