Reason for starting
I started my business out of my love of blending fragrances and my desire to have quality products for my skin and hair. I shared these products that I made in my kitchen with friends and family. My mother encouraged me to sell at a church flea market and that was the beginning of my brand, now 20 years old.

How do you define success?
Success is doing what you love to do, with people you want to be around and work with, making a difference in your life and other’s and if at the same time you can get paid for it. Fantastic! That is success. You must feel good to do good and be good.

Biggest Success
It is difficult to pick the “biggest” success as the definition of what that is changes over time. But, I can say that I am very proud of having gotten myself onto The Oprah Winfrey show simply by working hard and being myself. I did not have a PR firm at the time and I did not send packages to everyone at Harpo Studios. My name getting to the producers was a very organic process and being on her show was one of the most amazing moments of my life. I will treasure it forever.

What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it?
My top challenge is getting out of my own way. Not allowing my fears, doubts and insecurities to stop me from being the best me that I can be. I am a work in progress and I turn the mirror on myself constantly.

Who is your most important role model?
My mother, Carol. Even though she has been gone for ten years now, I know that how she lived her life is the right way to be. I make life decisions through that filter and I always want to know that she would not only be proud of me but respect and understand my choices and my decisions.
