Business: Bright Conferences, conference producers

Industry:   Other — Events, Conferences

Location: Brisbane, Australia

Reason for starting? The love of learning… as adults we often forget the joy we get from picking up a new skill, learning a language or simply satisfying our thirst for knowledge. Life gets in the way. Bright Conferences partners with organizations and individuals to facilitate awesome learning experiences, from fun adult learning courses to job based learning. We strongly believe in the value of knowledge shared from person to person and are keen to facilitate that through our activities.

How do you define success? Success comes in many forms. We are strong believers in the power of high fives! Essentially a job well done comes through people’s feedback and experiences. Success is knowing that you made someone’s life slightly better through your learning experiences, that their day was more joyful, happier and more knowledgable thanks to our work.

Biggest Success? On a business level our biggest success is our centre and finally being able to have a physical space to share with others that helps facilitate awesome learning experiences. Creating the space and being able to maintain it from a financial point of view has been fantastic. On a personal level there is nothing better than just being happy with what you do every day. It is not something that should be taken for granted!

What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it? Definitely me – not only a big challenge but a continuing one. So much of the business is actually based on you as the person who created the company. I constantly see things that need to improve in order to move forward. The biggest battle is with persistence and the ability to find the strength to move forward in the face of disappointment; the need to separate your perception from what is really happening; the ability to put your fears aside and do what needs to be done. You are constantly changing along with the business – hopefully for the better!

Who is your most important role model? I believe that everyone has something to teach you about life and how to be happy – all you need to do is listen. Knowledge and hindsight are extremely powerful and should be valued irrespective of whether they come from a successful business person or a random acquaintance. Everyone is a role model. There is one person who I tend to listen to more than anyone else and though we have never met, he has seen me through some tough times and constantly pushes me to overcome the challenges I mentioned above.
