Business Name: Roxstar Marketing, a service that creates social media markets

Type of Business: Marketing & PR

Business Location: Fort Worth, Texas, United States

Reason for starting
In November 2010, I was diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant. While recovering from surgery, I was terminated from my marketing job at DFW International Airport. Unemployed and fighting one of the toughest battles of my life, I sought out freelance marketing projects during treatment. As I recovered from treatment and surgeries, I decided that rather than return to a marketing position in a corporate environment, I wanted to utilize my skills and talent to pursue my dream of being an entrepreneur. Thus, I formed my own marketing firm, Roxstar Marketing. My first client was the place where I received cancer treatment, The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Through Roxstar Marketing, I now offer website, email and social media marketing, as well as public relations, to clients. I’m following a dream I once had – and loving it!

Biggest Success
My biggest business success is that I’m doing what I love, following my dreams and helping to make others successful at the same time.

What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it?
My top business challenge is  managing rapid growth. I’ve been surprised at how quickly my business has grown. I’ve taken notes from other successful entrepreneurs on how to address this challenge: outsource tasks, seek outside experts, be selective and embrace it!

Who is your most important role model?
While I can’t single out just one, there are a handful of entrepreneurs that I follow for inspiration and business advice. Oprah is one woman that I admire for her adept business skills and outlook on life. I am also constantly motivated by other female entrepreneurs.
