But which states are especially great for female entrepreneurs? Expert Market has put together an infographic that details the states with the highest — and lowest — percentages of firms owned by women.

According to their research, Washington, D.C., leads the nation on that front — 34.5 percent of businesses there have women at their proverbial helms. Meanwhile, just 22.1 percent of firms in South Dakota can make the same statement.

Expert Market also examined growth in the number of female-led businesses between 1997 and 2014, and found that Georgia fostered the most development in that area — and with a whopping 117.9 percent growth rate, no less.
