Your Name: Debra E Baretta
Business Name: Mama Baretta
Type of Business: Food & Beverage
Business Location: United States
U.S. State: California
Reason for starting
I come from a bread baking family and I began the business when my son was diagnosed with multiple food allergies. I realized that there was really nothing good on the market for people like my son, to eat and I was creating delicious allergy friendly breads, pastries, cookies and cakes. I wanted people to eat together again at the table!
My biggest success is winning a DOUBLE GOLD & BEST of SHOW from the Sonoma County Harvest Fair for my “Salted Caramel Nut Lace” cookie. This is a first for a gluten free cookie to win over all wheat cookies entered and was mentioned in the local newspapers.
What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it?
My top challenge has been capital. I have addressed this issue by taking baby steps in my business, building customers one at a time and doing several farmers markets to access quick cash. I am updating my business plan to present to investors and have begun working on my kickstarter video for crowd funding to purchase an oven.
Who is your most important role model?
I do not have one specific role model but many who have walked the entrpreneur steps before me. Women who own food manufacturing facilities such as Karen Trilevsky of Full Bloom Baking Company would be highest on the list.
