This story is part of our 1,000 stories campaign. What’s your story?
Name: Iram Parveen Bilal
Business: Parveen Shah Productions, a production company for independent films
Industry: Arts & Entertainment
Location: Los Angeles, California, U.S.
Reason for starting: I wanted to make quality independent films. I’m looking to build a consistent brand recognition with my name and my films, and ultimately to produce other people’s content.
How do you define success? Sustained personal and professional growth. If you are continually developing in every chunk of time, then you are successful.
Biggest Success: Producing and distributing JOSH, which became one of the most talked-about films from Pakistan this year.
What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it? Being taken seriously as a woman entrepreneur. I don’t know if it has been fully addressed yet, but the consistency of my delivery and my longer term relationships tend to get rid of any preconceived biases due to gender and age, which seem to be the biggest obstructive factors in my case. I am a bit concerned about planning my family and carrying on with this hectic, competitive travel and filming schedule.
Who is your most important role model? My mother. She is the most resilient person I know.
