This story is part of our 1,000 stories campaign. What’s your story?

Your Name: Jacqueline Smith, MPH

Business Name:  jacquelinesmith.com, an online sugar free health program

Type of Business: Health & Beauty

Business Location: San Francisco, California, United States

Reason for starting: Halfway through graduate school, I knew I couldn’t sit at a desk working for someone else anymore. I had so many ideas and I wanted to get out and implement them. I believed in my own ability to create quality health programs for the public.

How do you define success? To be able to provide for myself and my husband financially. To leave behind truly great work that significantly benefitted others.

Biggest Success: I’ve taught adults from 4 countries how to change their sugar habit and sustain their results.

What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it? My top challenge is sales and social media marketing. I want larger cohorts of students per course. I’ve addressed this challenge by a) putting myself out on social media more (e.g. starting my business’s Facebook page last month) b) reading books and listening to podcasts on sales c) looking for a business counterpart who loves sales and marketing while I grow in that area as well.

Who is your most important role model? Sara Blakely [the founder of Spanx]. I love her story about getting out and failing. I think about her daily as a role model.
