Madam C.J. Walker is embarking upon a new chapter – of sorts.

Over 110 years after Walker’s own company was founded, new iterations of her hair care products are now available for purchase. MADAM by Madam C.J. Walker, as the latest product line is called, is “designed to respect, protect, and perfect the wide range of styles worn by women of color,” according to a press release.

Walker’s innovations in hair care and cosmetics led to her becoming America’s first self-made woman millionaire. Now, Walker’s great-great granddaughter, A’Lelia Bundles, is bringing her work to a modern audience. To do so, she collaborated with Sundial Brands, an inclusive beauty brand that first acquired Walker’s company in 2016, as well as big box retail giant Walmart.

“We worked together to merge 100 years of research, development, science and technology to ensure that the products are as innovative and effective as the original Walker line,” Bundles said in the press release. “This collection embodies Madam Walker’s spirit of empowerment and pays homage to modern women of color.”

“I am thrilled to continue my great-great grandmother’s legacy,” she added.

MADAM by Madam C.J. Walker is now available in over 3,000 Walmart locations throughout the country, as well as online.

Walker’s company was founded in 1910, and stayed strong for well over half a century, before closing in 1981. (Her products became available once more via cosmetics retailer Sephora following Sundial’s acquisition.) Walker herself passed away in 1919, at the age of 51.
