She’ll Help You Style Your Existing Wardrobe

Rosario Castorena is a personal stylist helping women breathe new life into their old clothes.

Rosario Castorena’s friends often had a familiar gripe: That they had nothing to wear, despite frequently buying new clothes. Castorena realized they already “had the ingredients” – they just “didn’t know the recipe” needed to make them work once more. Earlier this year, Castorena launched styling business Madeline Aubrey to empower women and boost their confidence through personalized wardrobe transformations. Today, the Santa Ana, California-based stylist is thrilled to spend her time helping women find a whole new sense of style and confidence – with the clothes they already own.

Here’s our lightly edited Q&A, from The Story Exchange 1,000+ Stories Project.

How is your business different from others in your industry?

Effective personal style doesn’t have to come with the cost of buying the latest designer items – sometimes you already have what you need in your closet. Also, I’m a big fan of items you can get from a consignment store, rather than the latest trends.

What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it?

Developing business know-how. There is always this feeling that you should have everything figured out, but it’s ok if you don’t. And, there are so many people willing to help – I often asked friends and friends of friends for advice.

What is your biggest tip for other startup entrepreneurs?

There are many free resources out there. Whether it’s a business class or mentoring programs, help is out there. And if all else fails, YouTube University is a great resource.

How do you find inspiration on your darkest days?

I remind myself that entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be detours and delays, but as long as you’re working towards it, it will happen.

What is your go-to song to get motivated on tough days?

“Take Me to the King” by Tamela Mann.

Who is your most important role model?

My mom. Even though she has passed, I still want to make her proud.
