Reason for starting
I started a business because I was tired of being miserable at the gym. As a young woman in college, my friends and I were all health (and self) conscious. So we’d drag our feet to our university gym in cold weather and trudge along on the elliptical for 45 minutes like zombies. At a nightclub on a Spring break trip to Miami, my best friend and I noticed something amazing: everyone was sweaty, everyone was exercising (dancing) yet everyone looked happy as could be. We came up with the simple idea to fuse fun and fitness under one roof.

How do you define success?
I know I’m successful when I see people who would never get on a dance floor dare to take my class and enjoy it. If I’m able to motivate “non-athletes” or “non-dancers” to enjoy moving their bodies as much as I do, then I feel happy with what I’ve accomplished.

Biggest Success
Just months after starting, my business was featured in publications like Daily Candy, Huffington Post, and TIME. Those were huge milestones for me.

What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it?
Since I socialize with my clients and part of my job includes working out, I have found that the lines between personal and professional can become blurry. I have to set boundaries on my personal and professional lives and be sure to respect time off for myself. I don’t touch a keyboard on Sundays.

Who is your most important role model?
My parents. The most important lesson they taught me: do it the right way or don’t do it at all.
