She’s Bringing Comprehensive Testing to Her Community
Silva Moradi launched Nobility Health to provide healthcare testing services to southern California.
When Covid first erupted in 2020, Silva Moradi realized it was essential to regularly test the doctors, staff and patients at her other venture, Avalon Surgery Center. Moradi quickly saw a significant need for more accessible and reliable testing services far beyond the confines of her business – namely, in her Glendale, California, community. That’s what inspired her to launch Nobility Health, a laboratory site that offers rapid diagnostic tests, toxicology and STI testing, and a comprehensive respiratory pathogens panel. Moradi is now expanding her ability to help underserved folks by bringing her services to schools, universities, churches and transition homes throughout South and East Los Angeles.
Here’s our lightly edited Q&A, from The Story Exchange 1,000+ Stories Project.
How is your business different from others in your industry?
We offer comprehensive testing and healthcare services directly to underserved communities. Our high-complexity lab provides fast, reliable testing at reasonable fees. Our partnerships with local organizations help us address testing gaps in primary care. We’re not just a lab – we’re a committed part of the community, working to make healthcare available to all, but especially those who need it most.
Tell us about your biggest success so far.
Our rapid response since the start of the Covid pandemic. We quickly expanded our services to provide testing to schools, churches and other central hubs for underserved communities in Los Angeles. This effort not only kept these communities safe, but also revealed gaps in primary care, helping us establish targeted, ongoing support programs, as well as a community clinic.
What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it?
Picking the right instruments for the laboratory. In the surgery center space, some equipment can be used for 20, or maybe 30 years, and still keep some value. But it’s fascinating to see how fast the equipment in our labs can become outdated. There is so much competition, and so many different methods, for running the same test.
Have you experienced any significant personal situations that affected your business decisions?
Everyone sees life differently, and those perspectives aren’t necessarily right or wrong — just different. I’ve learned not to let other people’s opinions steer my life. Rather, I’ve found it best to rely on internal solutions to solve problems, and to consider outside opinions only as secondary or tertiary options.
What is your biggest tip for other startup entrepreneurs?
Build a strong network of support early on. Surround yourself with mentors, advisors and fellow entrepreneurs who can offer sound guidance and share their experiences. Starting a business can be challenging, and having a supportive network can make a huge difference in navigating obstacles and staying motivated. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help and learn from others’ successes and failures — it can save you a lot of time and effort in the long run.
How do you find inspiration on your darkest days?
From my family, especially my daughters. They remind me why I started this journey — to make a meaningful impact on our community, and to create a better future for them and others. Their unwavering support and belief in what we do keeps me going, even when challenges seem overwhelming. Knowing that our work helps improve lives motivates me, too.
What is your go-to song to get motivated on tough days?
I don’t have a go-to song, but my go-to artist is always Ed Sheeran!
Who is your most important role model?
My mother. She is the strongest and most resilient person I’ve ever known. She has been my mentor and support throughout my entire career. She is truly the boss of our family.
