Daniëlle Bronsema had wanted to start her own business ever since she was a little girl. The concept for the company she ended up launching, DB The Label, came to her after years of dress shopping as a taller woman who struggled to find attire that fit her properly. The options she found on the racks were either too short, poorly fitted, or simply lacked the elegance she was looking for. So in 2021, she launched a line of high-end dresses for special occasions that come with length options, so they can fit a range of heights and sizes. Today, the Amersfoort, Netherlands-based entrepreneur is tailoring marketing strategies that work for her budding fashion brand. Here's our lightly edited Q&A, from The Story Exchange 1,000+ Stories Project. How is your business different from others in your industry? We design dresses with length options, ensuring every woman finds the perfect fit based on her height. Our pieces are made for special occasions, but are designed to be worn more than once. Unlike fast fashion, we focus on premium fabrics, expert tailoring and timeless style, so our dresses can last longer. Plus, basing our production in Greece guarantees high-quality craftsmanship and ethical manufacturing. Tell us about your biggest success so far. Being approached by Miss Universe Netherlands, who wanted to wear my designs at the official competition in Mexico. It confirmed that my vision — creating elegant, perfectly fitting dresses for special occasions — resonates with others. Seeing my designs represented at such a large international event was a proud achievement for me. What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it? Figuring out how to reach the right audience in a competitive market. While I have a strong vision for my brand, translating that into effective campaigns has been a learning process. To improve, I’ve focused on developing social media strategies, creating collaborations and studying successful brands. I also decided to work with a business coach, which has been incredibly helpful — their experience and insight allows me to learn faster and make smarter decisions for my brand. What is your biggest tip for other startup entrepreneurs? Remember that there will be times when you feel like giving up. I’ve been there many times – and sometimes I still think about quitting. But I always remind myself that no one has ever made it by quitting. Also, think carefully before spending money, because you only get one chance with it. Give yourself time and don’t rush things; rushing can only lead to mistakes. How do you find inspiration on your darkest days? I listen to podcasts, read books and think about my dreams. I also have a Spotify music list for extra motivation! What is your go-to song to get motivated on tough days? “Warrior” by Oscar and the Wolf. Who is your most important role model? When I was a child, my dad was my biggest role model. He inspired me with his hard work and entrepreneurial mindset. Now, I look up to other female entrepreneurs – each one has her own story, and I know I can learn a lot from them.
