Female entrepreneurship is on the rise across the world. According to preliminary data released by the U.S. Census Bureau this summer for its Survey of Business Owners, women-owned businesses grew 28 percent between 2007 and 2012, reaching 9.9 million firms in all. That positive trend can be seen globally -- which is why our friends at the Brighton School of Business Management put together an animated, interactive map highlighting the top 12 cities for female entrepreneurs. Brighton's list is based on the Global Startup Ecosystem Ranking created by management-reporting firm Compass. The map showcases locales from Silicon Valley to Singapore where women business owners are making headway in the startup scene. And it reflects the fact that communities all over the world are not only embracing female entrepreneurs, but are working to create more supportive environments for their ventures as well.
