We know that outdoor markets are places where female entrepreneurs flourish (for more on that, see our coverage from this summer's open-air food markets in Manhattan and Brooklyn). So this holiday season, we headed to New York's Union Square Holiday Market to see how female vendors are faring, and spoke with Ursula Jaroszewicz of Pepper Press,, Neeta Sharda of Tanjore and Amanda Newman of Cork Buds. For more than two decades, the holiday market has allowed native New Yorkers and holiday tourists alike to peruse over 100 cozy pop-up shops which offer everything from chocolate-covered pretzels and beer to hand-made jewelry and works of art. This year, thanks in part to temperate weather, female merchants say sales have been brisk, spirits are high and the future looks bright.
