M.M. LaFleur is offering its work attire on loan for women running for office. (Instagram) Female political candidates can now dress for the office they want. Clothing brand M.M. LaFleur announced it would lend free designer threads to women running for office, whether locally or beyond. “Yes, it’s true!” the company tweeted on Tuesday. “We’re lending clothes to any woman running for public office at any level.” Using the hashtag #readytorun, the company instructed those interested to send an email to readytorun@mmlafleur.com for more information. When one user asked if the offer is also open to Republican candidates, the account responded, “We’re here to support women in leadership in all of its forms!” Sarah LaFleur and Miyako Nakamura co-founded the clothing brand in 2011 with the goal of creating modern, fashionable work attire with a reasonable price tag. The company made more than $70 million in revenue in 2017, according to Inc. “We never purport that clothes help move the needle on female representation, but we want to do our part to make things a tiny bit easier,” LeFleur, who also acts as CEO, said in an email, according to The Hill. N.Y. Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has been outspoken about her humble beginnings as a bartender, has said in the past that she relied on second-hand clothing when she ran for her seat and applauded the company’s move. “When I was running for office (even now!), accessing clothing for the job was a big challenge both logistically and financially,” she wrote on her Instagram story.
