Reason for starting
My husband’s job moves our family frequently and it was difficult to carve out my own career path; I wasn’t able to put down roots with any company. After I was let go from my PR job in the 8th month of my first pregnancy, I knew I needed to take ownership of my professional life.
Finding a like-minded business partner to join me in growing the business. It is not easy to bring someone on board with a fledgeling operation and convince them to take on risk without any promise of immediate reward. Luck helped me meet my partner but my instinct led me ask her to join me, the best decision of my entrepreneurial career so far.
What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it?
I had no experience and no connections in the industry I came into as first time entrepreneur. I have therefore worked constantly to forge new professional contacts, read books, attended lectures, and otherwise force-fed myself an entrepreneurial education all the while applying these lessons to a new business.
Who is your most important role model?
Stacey Edgar, the founder of Global Girlfriend. She took $2000 of her own money and turned into a profitable company that emphasizes women’s empowerment. She integrated giving and social justice into her business plan from the very start and grew it into a true movement.
