This story is part of our 1,000 stories campaign. What’s your story?

Name: Liz Lockard

Business: Liz Lockard Media LLC , small business marketing and consulting

Industry: Coaching & ConsultingMarketing & PR

Location: Pennsylvania, U.S.

Reason for starting: Honestly? I was looking for a way to restart my creativity and give myself a little more freedom after years in an office job that never quite fit. But why SEO & Analytics? Because I love the cross-over of tech & marketing – I like the puzzle of the data and the creativity that comes with creating an SEO strategy that fits you and your people. Working with small business clients is something I also particularly enjoy – the “a-ha” and “oh my God I get it!” moments are so much more satisfying when the person you’re helping is really connected to their product or service.

How do you define success? Success for my clients is getting to that “holy sh*t this works” moment. Success for my business is getting to live the life I want while maintaining a business that challenges and excites me.

Biggest Success: Oh man. I know it’s not big – but I think for almost every person starting out – it’s that first client that feels like the biggest success. Because before then, it’s just an idea you have. Nothing beats that “I can really do this for a living!” feeling!

What is your top challenge and how have you addressed it? My top challenge in my business has been time management. I used to be really bad at it. I starting working with Asana (free project management tool) and also starting working with a part-time project manager. The tool and the people interaction keeps me accountable and on top of everything better than I ever could be otherwise.

Who is your most important role model? Other female entrepreneurs and anybody who’s living life on their own rules. I love hearing success stories from people “I knew when” – that stuff lights me up and motivates me even more. That’s why I think this 1,000 stories project is so cool.
