Q. Who is eligible to become a contributor?
We’re most interested in women entrepreneurs who can share general tips about running a company, as well as motivational/inspirational advice. We’re happy to work with men and also anyone who is gender–fluid, as long as they have an interest in our mission of supporting women in business.
Q. What do I get for being a contributor?
We’re unfortunately unable to pay. As noted, we’re a nonprofit. Instead, we help expose you and your expertise to our wide community of women entrepreneurs. After your contribution is posted to our site, we share on our Facebook, Twitter and Instragram channels; we also regularly re-surface “evergreen” or timeless advice pieces. You also get an author’s page, featuring your photo, bio and an archive of your posts. Here is an example. Many contributors say they enjoy helping out fellow women entrepreneurs.
Q. How many people will read my post?
We’re small but mighty. Contributors often get 1000s of views, roughly equivalent to what a post on bigger, more mainstream sites might pull in.
Q. What topics are we most interested in?
Check out the 9 categories on our Advice & Tips page, everything from “choosing entrepreneurship” to “branding & marketing” to “work & life.” Please note that we ask you to direct advice/tips to women who run their own businesses (or who want to run their own businesses) as opposed to women employees.
Q. How long should posts be?
Generally speaking, 600 words is best, but a post can go longer if merited.
Q. When I submit a post, what format should it be in?
We can accept any format that works for you (GoogleDocs, Microsoft Word, TextEdit, etc.)
Q. How often do I need to post?
We’re looking for contributors who can post content on a regular basis, such as weekly or monthly.
Q. Must the content be original?
No. If you have posted your original content to your own site/blog, please let us know – we’re happy to pick up, though we prefer original content.
Q. Can I promote my business or clients through my post?
No. This not a forum for that. Posts are designed to be helpful to other business owners. We ask contributors to avoid self-promotion. Do not write about clients in an attempt to win business. Please disclose any financial relationships, if any, with any individuals or businesses that you’re writing about. We also strictly prohibit payments for media coverage (which the Federal Trade Commission considers deceptive advertising).
